After an extensive two-year search across the Piedmont region, Little Cedar Farm became a reality. Finding the right place was more than a matter of acreage or infrastructure; it was about discovering a setting where land, livestock, and legacy could thrive together. When we finally stepped onto this property, with its established barns, sturdy fencing, functional run-ins, and rolling pastures, we knew we had found home. Nestled in the gentle hills near Elon, North Carolina, our sheep and chicken farm now serves as a vibrant center for regenerative agriculture, responsible land stewardship, and meaningful community connection.
The journey did not begin with a blueprint but with a vision. Over the course of a year and a half, we committed ourselves to learning every aspect of small-scale farming. We built infrastructure with our own hands and educated ourselves through hours of research, workshops, and direct experience. We sought out guidance from extension services, read everything we could get our hands on, and connected with mentors who offered us invaluable wisdom. These early days were full of discovery, challenge, and deep growth. That period became the foundation for everything that Little Cedar Farm stands on today.
We are Cheryl and Tom, a husband-and-wife team with longstanding roots in the medical field. After years of working in service to human health, we felt a calling to pursue something equally impactful but grounded in the soil and rhythms of rural life. In 2020, we launched our farm with a focus on raising White Dorper sheep, a breed known for its resilience, excellent meat quality, and suitability for pasture-based systems. Transitioning into farming was more than a career change; it was a transformation of purpose. We brought the same dedication, attentiveness, and heart that we once offered in medicine and now apply them daily to the care of our land and animals.
Little Cedar Farm is not only a place where livestock flourish, it is also a living reflection of the values we hold dear. We believe in the power of sustainable farming to enrich lives, restore ecosystems, and create nourishment that is honest and traceable. Beyond the fences and fields, we remain committed to our parish and community, seeking ways to foster growth and connection through our work.
Every step we have taken, from setting fence posts to selecting breeding stock, has been guided by the belief that land has the power to heal, and that farming can be an act of love, service, and reverence. As Little Cedar Farm continues to evolve, we remain grateful for the journey that brought us here and excited for the seasons ahead. Our commitment to quality, transparency, and sustainability drives every decision we make, and we welcome you to be part of that story..
