Pottery

My journey...

A few years ago, I began taking ceramic lessons and immediately fell in love with the craft. It allowed me to integrate the painting skills I had developed as an amateur watercolor artist, making it a natural extension of my creative journey. However, the studio I attended was an hour and a half away, and I desired to expand beyond painting slip-cast creations.

Eventually, I joined Cerámica in Cary, North Carolina, where I began hand-building and took lessons on the pottery wheel. While learning to throw pots can be challenging at first, with time and practice, the muscle memory develops, and the process becomes much smoother. I now enjoy creating both hand-built and wheel-thrown pieces and find great joy in decorating and painting them.

With the encouragement of Robert Emerson, my instructor from RUUE Design, and my husband, I began selling my work, which has been met with great success.

Thanks to Cerámica, I was able to acquire a large, used Skutt kiln, which allows me to fire larger pieces and further expand my creative possibilities.
